There are two main ship lock structures on a soft foundation that are adopted widely,namely the dock structure and the double-hinged structure.Chamber,as a crucial part of a ship lock,plays a significant role on the safety and stability of a ship lock structure.As for the chamber in a dock structure,a u-shaped connection is formed by the walls and bottom plate of the ship lock.By comparing it with double-hinged structure,dock structure enjoys a better stability and ability towards inhomogeneous settlement,however,it reveals a worse capability of bearing bending moment,a thicker bottom plate and thus higher cost.Consequently,each structure has its advantages and disadvantages.Hence,in terms of the design and implement of ship locks,it is important to study the distribution of internal force between the dock structure and the double-hinged structure,respectively,and then figure out and optimize the key characteristics which are relevant to the force of the chamber structures.This study mainly focuses on the stress deformation and distribution of a dock structure by developing a nonlinear finite element method.Below are the main researches and achievements:(1)Based on the realistic projects database,establish a numerical model of a ship lock with a dock structure,to reflect the interaction under different working conditions and combinations of loads.(2)Identify the change of stress deformation and distribution among different bottom plates and thickness of walls.(3)By changing the cohesive force,internal friction angle and bulk density of backfill soil,discuss the impacts of material parameters to the ship lock stability.(4)By changing the foundation stiffness,analyze the impacts of the modulus of foundation elasticity to the mechanical characteristics of the chamber with dock structure.(5)Compare the outstanding characteristics between dock structure and double-hinged structure,providing reasonable advices to design the chamber of ship locks,especially for those on soft foundation.
