Pagoda forest consists of pagodas which bury monks,which can show the development characteristics of the ancient pagoda type of a temple and even a region in the long development.It plays a vital role to comprehend Chinese pagodas period of change.It is also the master key to explore the architecture design rule,building cultural phenomenon and the refraction of religious thoughts behind architecture.The main research object of this paper is the buddhist cemetery of Fahua Temple — Yinshan pagoda forest which is located in Changping district,Beijing.Yinshan Fahua Temple was built in the Liao Dynasty,and has repeatedly changed its name from Liao Jin to Ming and Qing Dynasties.Among them,the temple named Dasheng’an Temple of Jin Dynasty was the most prosperous.This pagoda forest contains the Jin,the Yuan,the Ming and the Qing dynasty pagodas.The close-eave pagoda in the Jin dynasty is an important data to study the development characteristics of close-eave pagodas in the Liao and Jin dynasty in Beijing area.This article is a case study and systematic discussion of Yinshan pagoda forest in the context of Beijing’s diverse social and cultural background,which is based on the academic community’s existing research on pagoda and pagoda forest.This paper is divided into four parts.First,this paper discusses the development of Yinshan Fahua temple since its establishment in the Liao dynasty.This part explores the Dasheng’an Temple’s importance to the Jin dynasty regime and national religious culture through the historical literature,inscriptions,and historical development.Second,under the background of the multicultural blending of Beijing,the location characteristics of Yinshan pagoda forest are described combining with Chinese traditional temple site selection culture.The layout design of the close-eave pagodas in the Jin dynasty is analyzed under the influence of buddhist concept at that time.Third,the importance of the close-eave pagodas in the Jin dynasty was explored in the process of studying the characteristics of different types of pagodas in Yinshan pagoda forest based on the classification of the pagoda.Finally,a more detailed study was conducted on the site selection,plane form,and facade elements of the most important close-eave pagodas in the Jin dynasty in Yinshan pagoda forest.
