With the rapid development of the economy, the quantity of the vehicle is increasing year by year. The vehicle aggravates the air environmental pollution while brings convenience to the people. The exhaust emission of motor vehicles has become one of the main factors influencing the environmental quality. The resources of urban road are limited. The control strategy of traffic light is backward,so that the limited road traffic resources cannot be fully utilized, resulting in the lower travel efficiency and further vehicle emissions aggravation. As a key part of urban traffic, arterial road intersection plays an important role in the entire urban road traffic network. The control of traffic lights on road will cause changes of vehicle operation conditions at the intersections,so that the emission of motor vehicles at intersections is greatly increased,a lot of unnecessary additional emissions are generated as well. Therefore, how to reduce the vehicle exhaust emission through effective signal control has become an important research project in the study of urban traffic control. This paper mainly aims at reducing vehicle exhaust emissions. The impact of traffic light control parameters on vehicle emissions is studied based on the car following model and the additional emission model proposed from the perspective of traffic control.Firstly, the signal coordination control on arterial urban road is studied.A signal state function is proposed which is not only suitable for a single intersection but also suitable for multiple intersections on arterial urban road.It is easy to get each signal state at any time on the arterial urban road. The correctness and accuracy of the model are verified by a series of simulations.Secondly,by studying the running states of vehicles under the control of traffic lights on the urban arterial road, combining the signal state model with the car following model,a traffic flow model which is suitable for the urban arterial road under the coordinated control of lights is proposed.Through a series of simulations, the vehicle operation behavior is analyzed at a single intersection and multiple intersections on arterial urban road respectively. Finally, through the research on the characteristics of traffic flow and vehicle emissions, combining of the traffic flow model and vehicle emission model which is based on vehicle specific power(VSP),we put forward the models of "actual emissions","basic emissions" and "additional emissions",which are based on a large number of actual data and simulation data.Through related simulations,we studied the emission of vehicles at a single intersection and the effect of the basic signal control parameters(cycle, split and offset time)on the vehicle's extra emissions under the signal coordination control on arterial urban road.In conclusion, the paper studies the characteristics of the traffic flow and vehicular additional emissions at a single intersection under the control of the traffic light.Meanwhile, the varying laws of traffic flow and vehicular additional emissions are analyzed and simulated under the coordination control of traffic lights on arterial urban road with multi intersections. We realize the extension through the "point control" to "line control",which lays the foundation for further research in this field.
