Bohai region is one of largest port assemble zones in the world.Several famous ports,such as Tianjin Port,Yingkou Port,Qinhuangdao Port,et al.are located in this area.And most of the ports are frozen ports.In winter,the performace of the ice buoys always directly affects the navigational safety of the frozen ports,efficiency of navigation support,and maintainance cost.As a result,there has been a growing concern on the research of light buoys used in icy sea area in recent years.Steel ice buoys,which are widely used in Bohai region,do not have enough ice resistance ability.There are some ordinary problems such as lantern damage,power supply system failure,peeling paint,which restrict the navigation performance level of ice bouys.In this research,the performance characteristics of the ice bouys used in the Liaodong Bay from 2010 to 2013 are analysised.To promote the ability of lantern,power supply system and painting system,the lantern structure is improved,the power supply system is changed and some new coating materials are used in instead of traditional paint,to improve color stability and solve the problem brought by peeling paint.Under normal circumstances,steel ice bouys in Bohai region replaced twice a year,which needs more money,human work and causes more safty risk.To solve this problem,a lot of work is done to design,research and produce China's own long term ice buoys.There main aspects,the structure design,material selection,and power supply system selection,are analysised.Tapered structure,ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene materials(UHMW-PE)and large capacity lithium battery are chosen to meet the demand of China's maritime user,and a long-term sustainable to 24 months.Based on some projects of ice buoys development,6 newly designed light buoys were produced and used in a test environment,which has proved the feasibility and practicality of the two ideas mentioned above.Being prepared for the next step,the paper also provides an outlook of the future of new technology such as intelligent and long-lasting light buoys used in icy sea area.
