The purpose of this paper is to study the driver's information needs and presentation needs in automated driving system.Based on the researchers who investigated the automated driving system,the information needs and the presentation interfaces.The main contents of this paper were established,which included that information needs research and information presentation research.There were three purposes of this study: 1)to find the driver's information needs in the automated driving system;2)to put forward practical information presentation interface which can provide support for the design of human-vehicle interaction interface;3)to verify the effectiveness of the presentation interface which can improve the driver's situation awareness.Firstly,in order to study drivers' information needs in different driving scenarios during automated driving.According to the characteristics of Chinese urban roads,6 typical urban road scenes were selected to be experimented.The eye fixation area and fixation time were recorded by the eye tracker while participants were carrying out the tasks,and the information needs of the scene were recorded after the task was completed.Then the factor analysis method was used to analyze the data,the results showed that: 1)Whether the driver's attention is out of the loop or not,some important information which includes vehicle information(e.g.speed,braking distance of vehicle),environmental information(e.g.the road condition,car condition around driver)and automated driving system related information(the ability of handling the risky condition)is essential;2)In the emergency scenes,some information which include the vehicle speed,vehicle distance on both sides,and vehicle distance before and after the vehicle are necessary to support drivers to brake or change the lane;3)In the congestion scene that cars move slowly,drivers need more road information(e.g.traffic signs,number of lanes).Secondly,three kinds of presentation interfaces are proposed and designed,which included traffic signs interface,short animations interface and text hints interface,and can help drivers enhance their situation awareness,by then,drivers could respond in time.The three interfaces were verified by experiment.54 drivers participated in the experiment.The results of the experimental data showed that: 1)the interface of the traffic signs greatly reduces the reaction time for the drivers to respond to the dangerous scene;2)the satisfaction of the animation interface is the highest and the expression of the information content is the most perfect;3)the efficiency of the text interface is the weakest;4)in the automated system,the more concentrated the driver's attention was,the shorter reaction time it needed to respond to the danger;5)1/4 of the drivers expressed trust in the automated driving system and did not take over the control of the vehicle,but 3/4 of the drivers said they could not trust the automated driving system.
