The car engine used in Chinese college student formula car competition(known as the Formula Student China,FSC in short)was taken as the research object in this paper.On the basis of performance calibration,the engine performance optimization and research and development of electronic control fuel injection system were carried out to realize the engine performance improvement.The engine under development could meet the requirement of working condition of the racing car.According to the FSC series restrictive requirements for engine swept volume,a kind of model Yaxiang LD450 engine was chosen to installed on the racing car by the FSC team of Qingdao University of Technology(QUT in short).The engine is a kind of carburetor type gasoline engine originally installed in the motorcycle.The engine dynamic performance and fuel economy could not conform to the requirements of the FSC competition rules.The different race item has different running condition,so the engine power output requirements should be adjusted to adapt to different race characteristics of competitions.The engine performance optimization and the engine electronic control fuel injection system development were carried out by means of computer simulation and engine calibration with the optimization of dynamic performance.The performance could meet the different requirements of competition items,such as linear acceleration,8 type ring and durability test.The restriction requirements for the racing car of the FSC competition were introduced.The matching demand of engine was analyzed.On the basis of analysis on the composition principle of electric fuel injection system for engine,the engine optimization scheme is proposed and analyzed by engine performance simulation with GTpower software.The inlet and exhaust system and oil ignition system were designed and matched.The model MoTec M84 was selected as electronic-controlled engine control module to develop a set of FSC car with small displacement engine electronic control system.The original carburetor engine was converted into electronic control fuel injection engine.The test instruments were built to measure and calibrate the engine performance such as the economic efficiency,dynamic performance and emission parameters.The comparison was made with electronically controlled engine and original engine.The test results were used to optimize and match the electric control system parameters.Test results showed that the performance of modified electronic-controlled engine is little lower than the original carburetor engine power performance due to the installation of metering valves,but it is very close.Howerver the fuel consumption rate and emissions targets have a significantly lower than the original machine,which can satisfy the requirements of competitions.The modified goals had been reached.
