The 21 st century is an era of aging population.Aging of population has brought pressure to the development of many countries in the world.China entered an ageing country at the beginning of this century. The issue of aging population has become increasingly prominent. One of the necessary conditions for good old-age work is to solve the housing problem of the elderly population.Due to the constraints of China's current level of social security, economic conditions, and traditional cultural background,home-based care is still the most common mode of old-age care in China.Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, although China has experienced many breakthroughs in residential construction, the design concept of residential areas has long neglected the residential needs of the elderly.A large number of existing homes have become the carrier of elderly living in the elderly. At present, the aging problem of these existing residential buildings tends to be obvious, which brings a lot of inconvenience to the life of the elderly. As a result, there is an urgent need for retrofitting existing homes. This article is based on the reconstruction of existing residential ageing in the experimental residential quarters of the city built in the late 1980 s to early1990 s in Qingdao Sifang Experimental Area. The research shows through the compilation of relevant domestic and foreign research data and analysis of typical cases,we can combine with the physiological, psychological and behavioral characteristics of the elderly to meet the residential needs of the elderly in a variety of residential housing, and to summarize the residential characteristics and appropriate aging issues in this period.Secondly,a field survey of Qingdao Sifang Experimental Community from the status of elderly occupants and the current status of residential use found that there is a conflict between the needs of elderly residents and the status of housing. It also analyzes and summarizes common problems and special problems in this period that include unreasonable patterns, narrow kitchen space, and lack of safety protection measures in the residential housing. Finally,it summarizes the contents and strategies of appropriate ageing retrofit and design of residential buildings and conducts appropriate aging retrofit attempts under this guidance. In short,we can draw lessons from successful cases and summarize the design methods for proper retrofitting of residential buildings. It is hoped that the results of this research can effectively solve the problem of elderly people's retirement. This gives the future development of elderly homes greater potential and realize the grand goal of keeping old-age businesses in line with society, economy and culture.
