The rapid development and the concept reforms of higher education in China have put forward new requirements for university campus construction. But,after reconstruction, expansion and merger, the extensive development mode of our domestic university has been disjointed with higher education development, thus exploring the core nature of quality-oriented education of universities and transforming them from traditional academic research institutes to the academic, industrial, economic and cultural complexes has become a new goal of university development.Community arises from the movement of global communi ty development in recent decades, and attracts much attention due to its people-orientation and excellent practical effect.Through emphasizing the campus as an important social unit in the city, this paper introduces the community concept into guiding the campus planning of universities, provides a feasible and effective approach for the universities to adapt to the reform of higher education concept and the urban symbiosis development with a strong prospection.Firstly, the paper makes a basic research on the community-based campus of university, summarizes its development motivations, and explores its basic connotation.Besides, taking the behavior factors of the teachers and students in the campus as the starting point, this paper makes concept construction and plan strategy research of the community-based campus of university, and divides it into five main points, including the school and city symbiosis, the functional organization, the space design, the traffic plan and the ecological sustainability.1.Through making analysis of the internal relation between the campus and the urban development, the school and city symbiosis strategy clarify the inevitable trend of it,and provides favorable conditions for its opening and integration in terms of plan.2.Through summarizing the experiences and lessons of the trad itional campus function layout, the functional organization strategy puts forward the principle of the community-based campus, and explores it initially.3.Through learning from the concept of ‘neighborhood unit' in urban residential plan, the space design strategy puts forward the concept of ‘campus neighborhood unit',expounds its scale, structure, characteristics and organization types and summarizes the construction method of neighborhood atmosphere in campus public space.4.The traffic plan strategy puts forward the effective ways to connect the traffic of university and city and the traffic guidance in university, and focuses on expounding the plan strategy of the slow traffic in the community-based campus.5 The ecological sustainable strategy researches five aspects: the intensive use of land, the green use of energy, the virtu ous recycling of resources, and symbiosis with the natural adaptability and the establishment of the information network platform. Finally, this paper puts theoretical research results into the case study, and makes corresponding suggestions for the community-based adaptive transformation of Hunan University campus. In conclusion, the community-based campus plan is an effective organization of the campus space layout and the urban space within the campus scope, but it doesn't blindly pursue the integration of the city community regardless of the campus nature. Its aim is to solve the common problems in the current univ ersity plan, better meet the requirements of teachers and students, enhance the common se nse of the main body of campus and realize the symbiotic development of campus and city through the construction of the community-based campus. The paper provides new plan thoughts for the future development of universities and promotes the diversified development of campus plan.
