Aerodynamics is one of the vital parts in motorsports,it even can be the key to win a competition.FSAE racing car is an open-wheeled car with characteristics like small size,light weight and fast acceleration.However the speed of the racing car is not very fast since the FSAE racing track is much shorter than the Formula one circuit.The stability,acceleration,braking and speed of the vehicle will be significant improved by using reasonable aerodynamics.Therefore the aerodynamics package is widely used in FSAE racing car.The research object is a formula electric racing car which is designed and made by Zhejiang University of Technology formula electric racing car.In order to improve the performance and increase the velocity of the racing car,a mechanical model established in the software CATIA is imported to the CFD software for simulation.Then the vehicle performance influenced by wing section parameters,ground effect and aerodynamic package are analyzed.An optimized aerodynamic package is designed and verified which proves that the performance and speed of the racing car is much improved.The main work of this paper can be divided into following parts:1.The aerodynamics of racing car is introduced.According to the wing section and position of maximal camber,attack angle is optimized from 0° to 25°.2.The aerodynamic package is strictly limited by rules of FSAE committee.In addition,multi-element wings can achieve greater negative lift in limited space.The narrow slot between mainplane trailing edge and flap leading edge are optimized,and the difference of aerodynamic characteristics between dual-element wings and three-element wings are compared.3.The front wing and diffuser are the main components which can produce the ground effect in a FSAE racing car.The ground clearance of the front wing and the angle of diffuser are also optimized.4.The drag coefficient,negative lift coefficient and center of pressure are calculated through a numerical simulation of FSAE racing car.Then optimized vehicle is compared with the one without aerodynamic package.The results show that the aerodynamic package can greatly improve the performance of racing car,and increase the speed and stability of the car.After adding the aerodynamics package,the lift coefficient of the racing car decreases from 0.24 to-1.89,and the negative lift is greatly increased and the single lap time is significantly reduced,which is decreased from 84.61s to 75.40s.
