Research On Forms And Evolution Of The Historical District And Traditional Architecture In Yiyang

As the source of each city's unique glamour,the historic streets and vernacular architectures are the carrier of the city's history which play an important role in its recognition.The vernacular architectures are the territorial expression of Chinese timbered building mode while the historic streets are the skeletons of the whole city which link all city's internal elements to be an organic unity.Unlike the capital's formal symmetry,local cities' layouts are more casual due to the restrictions of different factors.This thesis tried to set a small city located along the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River as an example to discuss the streets and vernacular architect ures' forms along with their evolution process from different perspectives including architecture,sociology and history with the methods of conclusion and analysis by field researches.The thesis is consist of five main chapters.The first chapter introdu ced the background of this subject,purpose and current status of the research and the brief of the research's content,scope and methods.The second chapter showed the basic information of Yiyang City includes the physiographic condition,history,culture and local products,general spatial pattern had been analyzed in this part to figure out the material factors behind the city's culture.In the third chapter,the author analyzed the streets' structural forms and causes as well as evaluating them based on the existing ones.The fourth chapter focused on the vernacular architectures' flat forms,structural system and decorations to explain the residents' actions of pursuing living comfort and the buildings' evolution process which affected by the spread of foreign ideas.In the fifth chapter,the preservation of the culture heritages had been mentioned along with the suggestions on their protection with the buildings' own characteristics been taken into consideration.This thesis had discussed the downfall of the city.The historic streets and vernacular architectures' evolution process are the main point of this thesis.Also,the defects of them had also been noticed.
