In Mombasa-Nairobi area,an old product oil pipeline was built in 1978.The length of the pipeline is about 449.1km,the diameter is 355.6×6.4mm,and the maximum operating pressure is 10 MPa.Because the pipeline has been running for about 34 years,corrosion is very serious.Therefore,the company plans to build a Mombasa-Nairobi product oil pipeline in range of the old right of way to replace the existing pipeline.The completion of the Mombasa-Nairobi product oil pipeline will solve the problem of the transportation of oil products affected by climate in the region,and ensure the supply of industrial,transportation and civil product oil in the central city.In this paper,combining with engineering practice,design optimization study is taken for long-distance transportation Pipeline Mombasa-Nairobi.Pipeline diameter is optimized and pump stations will be constructed by stages according to design flowrates in different period.Pipeline steel grade and wall thickness is determined due to economic comparison and the quantities are optimized.The hydraulic analysis software SPS is adopted to analyze the water hammer caused by shut down of initial mainline pump accidently and simulation results suggests it is essential to install relief system at the mainline pump inlet to prevent over pressure.A numerical simulation is carried out for the flow of two kinds of oil in the oil pipeline,and the distribution of the mixed oil concentration is analyzed,and the transient flow mathematical model of the pipeline is established.The method of pipeline commissioning is determined as method of oil after the water isolation column,considering the terrain of Mombasa-Nairobi Pipeline,water available,domestic experience and time limit.The optimization plan of the study could effectively reduce the cost of pipeline and improve the economic effectiveness in pipeline transportation.
