Natural rubber?NR?has excellent comprehensive performance and is the most widely used rubber type.The application of rubber usually requires fillers to reinforce them,which plays a role in reducing costs and improving performance.Carbon black is still the mainstream rubber reinforcing filler,but it is costly and polluting.Therefore,various types of inorganic filler reinforcing rubber have also been developed.This paper focuses on illite reinforcing NR.Firstly,Use illite of different particle sizes to replace carbon black until it completely replaces filled NR,and study the performance change of rubber in the experiment.Secondly,illite was modified with a silane coupling agent,and then filled with NR.Beside,by studying the effect of modified illite on NR performance changes,and the modification of illite was explored.Thirdly,using different inorganic fillers and carbon black to fill rubber,explore the advantages of illite compared with other inorganic fillers.It is found that with the increase of 4500 mesh illite equivalent amount of carbon black,the T10 of the rubber gradually increased,the vulcanization safety was increased,the rebound coefficient was increased,the loss of vulcanized rubber was reduced,and the heat of compression was significantly reduced.However,it will reduce the abrasion resistance and the tear strength of the rubber.Compared with carbon black-filled rubber,illite-filled rubber has better resistance to ozone aging.With the increase of illite content,the mechanical properties of the rubber will decline,but with a small amount of replacement,when CB/illite=40/10,the tensile strength?29.7MPa?is basically the same as that of the full carbon-filled rubber?29.9MPa?,and a small amount of replacement will also improve the flexural fatigue properties of rubber.Comparing different sizes of illite to replace carbon black filled with NR,it is found that with the increase of the fraction of illite to replace carbon black,the change trend of rubber properties is similar.The smaller the particle size of illite,the better the flexural fatigue performance of rubber,the greater the tear strength,and the higher the maximum value of tensile strength.The maximum tensile strength?29.7 MPa?of 4500 mesh illite appears when replaced by 10 phr,the maximum tensile strength?28.3 MPa?of 1250mesh illite appears when replaced by 20 phr,and the maximum tensile strength?26.9MPa?of 325 mesh illite appears when replaced by 30 phr.However,the larger the particle size of Ishtel improves the rubber's resistance to hot air aging.On the whole,the smaller the particle size of illite,the better the reinforcement effect on rubber.Compared with unmodified illite,when illite is modified with 3wt%silane coupling agent and then filled with rubber,the processing properties of the rubber can be effectively improved,and increase the tensile strength of the rubber from 23.4 MPa to 25.5 MPa,abrasion resistance is improved,flexural fatigue properties is greatly improved,and rubber properties is improved in all directions.Compared with talc,CaCO3,and kaolin,illite and carbon black are used together with direct-filled rubber,which has better reinforcement effect.The rubber has the best tensile strength,elasticity and flexural fatigue properties.At the same time,it also has higher abrasion resistance and lower heat of compression.
