People with visual disabilities will face many difficulties in daily life after they lose the important access to information.Although the number of people with visual impairment is huge in China, there are few products suitable for people with visual impairment in the market. With the attention of the country and society to the vulnerable groups and the advocacy of humanistic care, more and more products are designed for the vulnerable groups and the barrier-free facilities in the public space are becoming more and more perfect. However, the daily life and household items of the visually impaired are still not fully taken into account.Saying goes to the "food"is everyone in life involve, all aspects of people's life and surrounding it,the blind also want to overcome the difficulties to make three meals for themselves a day, apply to household kitchen supplies for the visually impaired. However, there are relatively few household kitchen products applicable to the visual disability groups.Currently, most of the research on accessible kitchens is aimed at the elderly and people with physical disabilities, while there are few studies on people with visual disabilities.Totally blind people with visual disability are taken as the main research object to explore the operation pain points in their kitchen operations, and to provide solutions from the perspective of product design,so as to improve the quality of life of visually impaired people.First of all, through the reading of relevant literature and the accumulation of previous theories, the present status of barrier-free research on visually impaired people and the characteristics of visually impaired people are analyzed. The concept of visual disability is systematically expounded, and the differences between the first and second levels of blindness and low visual acuity, the physiological and psychological characteristics of the visually impaired, the sensory and behavioral characteristics of the visually impaired, and the similarities and differences between the congenital and acquired visually impaired in the processing of acceptable information are introduced. Then the survey plan of household questionnaire interview and situation observation is made.Through in-home questionnaire interviews, after analyzing the kitchen life status of primary and secondary blindness and the people with low vision and visual impairment, finally the completely blind people are selected as the main research object. The hidden needs of completely blind people because of their long-term habits is found out by situational observation of the kitchen operation process of the blind people.Based on the above two parts of the research data analysis of the kitchen operation of the completely blind people need pain points, and summed up the design principles and design methods for the completely blind people household kitchen supplies, used to guide the late design case. Finally,a group of seasoning boxes with quick access and quantitative control, door panels with intelligent voice reminders, and kitchen cabinets designed to clean countertops and enable POTS to be placed stably in the middle of the stove were completed.Based on field investigation, the pain points and requirements of kitchen operation for the visually impaired are analyzed and the completely blind people innovative design principle and design method of household kitchen supplies are put forward. These principle and design method will provide reference for related enterprise product design for the visually impaired. At the same time, they maximize the design to help visually impaired, meet the needs of visual disabilities household kitchen life, and also reflect the humanities concern.
