A large amount of waste is produced during the fabrication of optical fiber preform by using vapor deposition method.The main component of the waste is porous nano silica,and the waste also contains a small amount of inorganic and organic flocculant impurities.At present,the way to treat the optical fiber preform waste is landfill,which not only causes a waste of resources,but also pollutes the environment.Nano silica dispersed in epoxy resin?EP?matrix can produce small size effect,which can improve the mechanical properties,heat resistance and thixotropic performance of EP sticky steel adhesive.In this paper,the optical fiber preform waste powder was used as a reinforcing component to prepare EP sticky steel adhesive product so that their resource recycling can be achieved.Firstly,unmodified waste powder,KH-570 modified waste powder?Named as KH-570/SiO2 powder?and A-151 modified waste powder?Named as A-151/SiO2 powder?were added to EP to prepare composites individually,and the effects of the three powders on the tensile properties and heat resistance of the composites were studied.This study is the preliminary exploration in order to investigate the application of the optical fiber preform waste powder to sticky steel adhesive product.The research results are showed as follows:The addition of the unmodified waste powder,KH-570/Si O2 powder and A-151/SiO2 powder has significantly improved the tensile properties of the composite materials.When the filling mass fraction of the three kinds of waste materials is 20%?Based on the mass of epoxy resin?,the tensile properties of the composites are improved to the maximum.The tensile strength of the materials has been increased by 7.8%,10.7%and 19.9%respectively.The elongation at break has been increased even more,by 67.6%,120.6%,and 135.3%,respectively.The elongation at break of the three composites has reached 1.14%,1.50%,and 1.60%,respectively.The addition of three wastes also has significantly improved the heat resistance of the composites.Then the optical fiber perform waste powder was mixed with EP,toughening agent,diluent,filler,and curing agent to prepare sticky steel adhesive product.Through a series of experiments,the optimal formula of the product was explored.The experimental results are in the following:The addition of the optical fiber perform waste has significantly improved the thixotropy of EP sticky steel adhesive.The thixotropic index of the sticky steel adhesive without waste powder is only 1.72,when the additive amount of the waste powder is 20%,the thixotropic index is improved to the maximum of 4.18,which conforms to the national standard?GB/50728-2011?.As a result,the optimal additive amount of the optical fiber perform waste powder is 20%.Based on tensile properties of the composites as the evaluation index,the two kinds of curing agent,4822D and Y-2118,were screened out,because the tensile properties of their composites conform to the national standard.It has been found that the optimal dosage of the two curing agents is50%and 36%,respectively.In addition,the optimal content of toughening agent?QS-BE?and diluent?692?is 10%and 5%,respectively.Finally,the important indexes of the optimal formula product were tested to determine whether they conform to the national standard?GB/50728-2011?.It has been found that the tensile strength,tensile elastic modulus,elongation at break,steel-steel shear strength,steel-C45 concrete positive tensile bonding strength,freeze-thaw resistance,heat aging resistance,resistance to long-term stress,and thixotropic index of the optimal formula product prepared by 4822D curing agent all conform to requirements of the national standard?GB/50728-2011?.It is expected that it is no problem that other performance indexes of the optimal formula product reach the national standard.
