Syngas is a gas mixture of CO and H2.It is not only the main component of coal gasification in integrated gasification?gasification-gas-steam?combined cycle?IGCC?,but also can produce methanol, dimethyl ether and other alternative fuels. It has a great development and application prospect in industrial production. In order to ensure the safety of syngas in industrial production, this paper studied the explosion of syngas in a20L spherical explosive container, and analyzed the impact of the explosion characteristics of syngas and the addition of inert gas on the explosion characteristics of syngas. In this study, the experimental equipment of 20L spherical explosive vessel was improved, and the explosion characteristics of synthetic gas under different experimental conditions were tested by partial pressure gas distribution method. In this paper, the explosive characteristics of synthetic gas were studied at first, and the explosive characteristics of synthetic gas at different equivalent ratios and CO/H2 rates were tested. Then, the inert gases N2 and CO2 were added under the explosion condition, and the explosive characteristics of synthetic gas at different equivalent ratios under the same ratio of CO/H2 rate were tested.Besides, the explosion characteristics of synthetic gas are analyzed from such aspects as explosion pressure, peak time of explosion pressure, and rise rate of explosion pressure and explosion index. The experimental results show that with the increase of the equivalent ratio, the peak explosive pressure and explosion index of synthetic gas both increase first and then decrease. When the equivalent ratio of synthetic gas is 1.2,both reach the maximum value, which is the maximum explosive risk. The time for the explosion to the peak pressure decreases with the increase of the equivalent ratio, when the volume fraction of CO in syngas is lower than that of H2.When the volume fraction of CO in syngas is higher than that of H2,the time for explosion pressure to reach the peak decreases first and then rises. When the equivalent ratio of syngas remains unchanged, the amount of CO in syngas increases, and the explosion pressure of syngas increases. With the increase of syngas CO/H2,the time for syngas explosion to reach the peak pressure increases, the peak pressure increases, the explosion index decreases, and the explosion danger decreases. With the addition of inert gas,as the volume fraction of inert gas increases, the explosive pressure of synthetic gas gradually decreases, the time when the explosive pressure reaches the peak increases, the explosive peak pressure decreases, the explosive index decreases, and the explosive danger degree decreases. When CO2 and N2 with the same volume fraction were added,CO2 always played a stronger role than N2 in delaying the peak time of pressure, reducing the peak explosion pressure and explosion index, and the anti-explosion effect of CO2 was the most significant when the volume fraction was 20%.Through experimental research and theoretical analysis, this paper obtained the rules of the explosive characteristics of synthetic gas and the influence of inert gas on the explosive characteristics of synthetic gas under different working conditions, which provided the theoretical basis and guiding significance for the safe use of synthetic gas in industrial applications.
