EDM is one of the non-traditional machining methods,with the advantage of little machining force and high accuracy,but the disadvantage of EDM is the relatively lower surface quality.In this paper,EDM is assisted with static and alternate magnetic field to solve the problem of surface roughness and white layer in the workpiece.Firstly,this paper discusses the principle of magnetic field-assisted EDM.On the base of Lorenz force won't contribute to the energy,the trajectory of the charged particles in the discharge channel is calculated,and the calculated results show that the trajectory of electrons is deflected.Then wedge-shaped electrode is used in the experiment,and the experiment result indicates that the discharge channel and the discharge point are moved from one position to another,and the discharge crater is elongated obviously.The discharge channel in alternate magnetic field will be deflected in different direction,and this phenomenon may improve the surface quality in EDM.The structure and material of the iron core in the magnetic field generator is designed,and Ansoft Maxwell software is used for simulation and optimization of the generator.The experimental platform for magnetic field-assisted EDM is also built.Finally,experiment with different magnetic field parameter is carried out,and the surface roughness and white layer of the workpiece are analyzed.The analyzed result indicates that high intensity and frequency magnetic field can improve surface quality,and alternate magnetic field has better effect.
