With the development of science and technology, the requirements of the quality of the workpiece which used in each industry and operation fields have become higher and higher. However the whole performance of workpiece depends on the surface quality. Magnetic abrasive finishing(MAF) is an effective processing technology to improve surface quality with magnetic field. Although this processing technology still in experimental investigation period at present. There ere some situation such as a wide range of magnetic abrasive, the lack of a commercial process parameters to limit the technology popularization and application in our country. To solve problems mentioned above, this paper based on planar magnetic abrasive finishing device turn from XK7136 C CNC milling machine, 440 c stainless steel and 718 die steel is finished with new spherical abrasive produced by gas atomization. Main researches are as follows:1. Theoretical analysis of MAF on spherical abrasive under wet grinding conditionThe paper begins from researching the force of single spherical magnetic abrasive grains get in the magnetic field and then analyzes the abrasive cutting action of magnetic abrasive finishing brush(MAFB). Micro-cutting and extrusion, plastic deforming, processing medium and corrosive wear are proposed as principles of Magnetic Abrasive Finishing. Focusing on new spherical magnetic abrasive of machining tool with important factors refer to its micro cutting edges and static effective sharpening number is studied.2. The cutting heat and the grinding fluid discussionIn the processing, plastic deformation and elastic deformation appears on work piece surface with cutting heat which affects shape and dimension precision. The grinding fluid can provides lubrication for magnetic abrasive and increases the mobility of the abrasive as well as rapidly conduct out the heat of theworkpiece. Different kinds of grinding fluid have varying degrees of impact on workpiece.3. Permanent field magnet pole design and simulation. The experiment based on the planar magnetic abrasive finishing device transformed from CNC milling XK7136 c, proposed to replace bit tool by Nd-Fe-B permanent pole. The research design magnetic pole shape and magnetic circuit based on experiment requisition, discuss whether slotted, slotted shape and depth of the groove width ratio, verified magnetic field intensity and magnetic flux density of the magnetic pole with simulation software ANSYS.4. Experimental study on magnetic abrasive finishing of high hardness magnetic materialsThe experimental research the effects and variation rules of the spindle revolution, working gap, feed speed and the amount of abrasives for 718 die steel and 440 c stainless steel with surface roughness were studied when the time was a fix value. For two kinds of materials, using orthogonal method to design experiment and optimize the experimental results. Summarized the best parameters of processing these two materials. The experimental results provide theoretical guidance and technical reference in each application fields..
