A large amount of fertilizer input and direct discharge of waste water from livestock and poultry industry have caused great damage to the environment.Developing ecological and circulation agriculture to ensure high yields with eco security has become a top priority. This thesis draws on evidence from investigations of non-point source pollution from pig farming in XinCun Township of Chongming County.Based on different development patterns of agriculture, this thesis has examined four measures currently in use to solve the problem of non-point source pollution from pig farming. They include to reduce the number of household pig farms to solve the problem of neighborhood pollution;to produce organic fertilizer for multi-industrial development;to produce biogas with dry manure to realize fuel and electricity self-sufficiency in pig farms;and to return biogas residues to the fields for planting and breading circulation. The thesis also discusses how to transfer the current extensive growth pattern to the ecological pattern for the development of modern agriculture in Chongming.
