Titanium alloy cylindrical parts are formed by rolling and welding of titanium plates.Due to the poor formability of titanium alloy material at room temperature, there are many flaws in traditional sizing process, such as obvious springback during unloading,non-uniform stress and easy to crack. The precision problem of large titanium alloy cylindrical parts is rather prominent.Electromagnetic forming is a high-speed metal plastic processing technology,it can significantly improve the plastic forming ability and deformation uniformity of titanium alloy at room temperature, and also the forming precision of the parts. In this paper, based on the principles of electromagnetic sizing technology,an experimental study on the sizing of large aeronautical titanium alloy cylindrical parts with diameter of 300 mm,height of 600 mm and wall thickness of 2 mm is carried out,and a new method of electromagnetic sizing with punching die is designed. In the process of the research, the mechanism of electromagnetic sizing, including the structure of electromagnetic forming equipment and discharging circuit of the system,is calculated and analyzed.Secondly, using three-dimensional drawing software SolidWorks and finite element electromagnetic analysis software Ansoft Maxwell to establish three-dimensional models for the sizing process and carry out numerical simulations. The effects of key process parameters, such as discharge voltage and resistance,on the distribution of current and magnetic field are studied. Finally, based on the results of simulations,a reasonable experiment scheme is carried out.The roundness measurements of parts are taken as the criterion to evaluate the precision of sizing. The influence of different parameters on the experimental results is analyzed to verify the accuracy of simulations and the rationality of the experimental scheme, and the experimental results of the new sizing method are compared with those of the conventional method. The experimental results show that the average roundness of the cylindrical parts is obviously decreased and the forming quality of the parts is improved after the electromagnetic sizing with punching die, which proves the feasibility of the new sizing method. Moreover, under the same discharge voltage, the average reduction of the roundness of the parts in this new method is increased by 20% compared with the conventional sizing method, this ensures the uniformity of the parts and improves energy utilization ratio of the equipment at the same time.It provides a new idea for the application of electromagnetic forming technology in aviation industry, which has certain theoretical significance and practical application value.
