A Research On Organic Marxism's Thoughts Of Ecological Civilization

Organic Marxism,with John B.Cobb Jr.and Philip Clayton as main representatives,is a school of thought that has emerged since 2014 and is still in process.In order to overcome ecological crisis,Organic Marxism combines Marxism with Whitehead's thoughts,and thus come up with a new interpretation of Marxism from the perspective of philosophy of organism.Organic Marxism intimates and highly appreciates contemporary Chinese Marxism because the two have a similar philosophical background and realistic pursuit.In this sense,it is different from ecological Marxism.Organic Marxism puts forward relatively rich thoughts of ecological civilization.Firstly,it argues that the root of the ecological crisis lies in the modern capitalist society,where the postmodern ecological civilization is about to be built up.Secondly,it argues that the core principle of ecological civilization is to put the common good of ecological communities upon the goal of economic growth.Thirdly,it argues that the feasible way to ecological civilization must be a socialist ecological civilization which combines the ecological principles with the principles of socialism.After the socialist China formally put forward the strategic task of ecological civilization construction,John B.Cobb Jr.put forward the proposition,"ecological civilization's hope is in China",and repeatedly warned that China's ecological civilization construction cannot imitate the United States.In addition,based on the United States' situation,organic Marxism put forward a series of ecological civilization construction policy recommendations and initiatives.Organic Marxism's thoughts of ecological civilization have outstanding theoretical characteristics.As a kind of thought growing out of the experience of capitalist modernization and the profound understanding of its flaws,it plays the role of a mirror for China to build up ecological civilization.However,as a growing theory,there are still some debatable ideas in Organic Marxism,furthermore its policy recommendations and initiatives maybe not suitable for China directly.In this regard,we cannot completely negate,nor blindly respect it.
