Paper is considered to be the most economical and environmentally friendly material.However,in the application process,the use of paper largely depends on the control of hydrophilicity and the enhancement of paper porous structure.The research of sustainable alternative materials for paper chemicals has become a hot topic for more than ten years.Traditional surface sizing agents could not meet the requirements of environmental protection and renewability.Therefore,environmentally friendly polymers with good application effect are very promising as sustainable paper surface sizing agents.In this paper,a new type of surface sizing agent,cationic fluorinated acrylic resin / alkyd resin(WPAARF)emulsion with core/shell structure,was synthesized by the preparation of reverse phase emulsion.The emulsion-based material was diluted with water to prepare the cationic surface sizing agent based on acrylic resin / alkyd resin emulsion with core shell structure,and the water resistance and mechanical properties of the paper can be improved.By optimizing the synthesis process,the dosage of cationic monomer,soft and hard monomer and functional monomer,the effect of emulsion on the properties of emulsion,latex film and paper was tested,and the better synthesis scheme was obtained.(1)Acrylic resin graft modified alkyd resin emulsion: the acrylic monomers introduced are methyl methacrylate two methylamino ethyl ester(DM),styrene(St),butyl acrylate(BA)and acrylic acid eighteen ester(SA),and alkyd resin(AR)is used as raw material to prepare a series of WPAARemulsions.The effects of the synthesis process and the dosage of cationic monomer and soft and hard monomer and functional monomer on the properties of emulsion and latex film and paper were studied.The results showed that the dropping time of acrylate monomer was designed to be 4 h,the polymerization temperature was optimized at 85?,the dosage of DM fixed was 2%,the ratio of m(BA): m(St)was 4:16,the dosage of SA was0.7%,AR dosage was 35%,initiator dosage was 1.5%,and the cosolvent was diethylene glycol butyl ether,the emulsion had good stability,the latex particle distribution was uniform,the water absorption of latex film was significantly decreased,the water resistance and the content of paper were good.Rational performance has been improved.(2)Acrylic acid six fluoro-butylester(HFBA)modified acrylic resin/alkyd resin emulsion: HFBA and DM,St,BA and SA together as acrylate monomer drop into AR,a series of WPAARF emulsion with different HFBA dosage were synthesized,and the properties of emulsion,the water resistance and mechanical properties of latex film,the water resistance and physical properties of paper were tested.The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)showed that HFBA was reacted in the copolymerization of acrylic monomers and AR.The XPS analysis of paper showed that the graft copolymerization of PA and AR was successfully achieved in the WPAARF emulsion system.The EDS of latex film showed that the content of F on the surface of latex film increased with the increase of HFBA dosage.Liquid particle size,latex film water resistance,mechanical properties and paper properties also increased,while emulsion stability decreased,so the dosage of HFBA was the better.At this time,the properties of emulsion,latex film and paper were improved significantly.The TGA analysis showed that fluorinated latex film had better thermal stability than fluorine free latex film;The SEM test showed that the degree of cross-linking between paper fibers was higher.The above analysis shows that the preparation of WPAAR emulsion surface sizing agent with strong cationic,good emulsion stability and good sizing effect can be synthesized by the method of phase inversion emulsionpolymerization.The addition of fluorinated acrylic monomer has further improved the water resistance and physical properties of paper.
