A Study Of The Embroidery Pattern Of The Intersecting Surfaces Of Manchu Pillow’ Ends

The embroidery pattern of the intersecting surfaces of Manchu pillow’ends is a cardinal folk embroidery pattern in chinese ethnic minorities,which used to be an important dowry for Manchu women.A great number of the embroideries of the intersecting surfaces of Manchu pillow’ends are well preserved,because of the valued importance of the Manchu marriage customs from people.In this thesis,the author did a research on the ornamentation features of the embroideries of the intersecting surfaces of Manchu pillow’ends.Firstly,the author collected and analyzed the embroideries on the intersecting surfaces of Manchu pillow’ends by collecting pictures,consulting data,visiting scholars and inheritors.Then,the author analyzed the subject about the ornamentation of the intersecting surfaces of Manchu pillow’ends.On one hand,under the influence of Saman cultures,there are many kinds of ornamentation of the intersecting surfaces of pillow’s ends which are in Manchu style including the common pattern of plants,animals and Saman activities in Samanism.On the other hand,there are also some embroideries patterns in Manchu life depicting scenes and Manchu languages,which are all in Manchu style.Due to the continuous integration of Manchu and Han cultures,a large number of patterns often used in the Han embroideries have appeared in the intersecting surfaces of the Manchu pillows’ ends,including the patterns of folk stories,local operas,characters and calligraphy,geometric patterns,landscapes,natural science and ancient writings or other themes.The integration of Manchu and Han cultures made the embroidery themes of the intersecting surfaces of Manchu pillow’ends more original and abundant.Finally,the author found out unique pieces of embroidery features in form,method,composition,ornamentation shape,theme selection and color management by analyzing ornamentation features and manifestation patterns of the intersecting surfaces of Manchu pillow’ends and comparing with other ethnic embroideries on the intersecting surfaces of pillow’s ends,which reflects the unique charms of embroideries of it,the northern minority folk embroidery art,and exists in the influence of unique histories,religions and geographical environments.
