Chlorine is a common element in the environment and often exists as inorganic ionic state. Its non-degradability and high migration are likely to cause salinization of water and soil.Chlorine in municipal solid waste(MSW)has the potential to release to the environment in the entire process from the waste collection to the final disposal. It is worthy of attention. In this study, the inorganic chlorine migration behavior from the whole disposal process, including classified collection, landfill and mineralized waste thermal treatment, was studied. It aims to provide basis for chlorine pollution control.Firstly, the characterization results of inorganic chlorine content from eight representative MSW classification communities in Hangzhou city indicated that it varied significantly from 0 to 113.06 mg/g in each component.Kitchen waste, paper and plastic, with the inorganic chlorine contribution of 67.14%,13.76%and 13.31%,respectively,were the main inorganic chlorine sources in MSW.The reasonable MSW collection and classification can cut 69.35%of the inorganic chlorine entering the subsequent MSW disposal process.Secondly, according to the research on the further landfill treatment of the mixed MSW,it indicated that the migration behavior of inorganic chlorine differed with landfill operation modes. The inorganic chlorine concentration in the leachate from the semi-aerobic landfill mode could reach to 18 g/L,which was three times over the anaerobic mode. The release behavior of inorganic chlorine in the traditional anaerobic leachate recirculation landfill mode could not evaluated. Finally, the further thermal treatment of the mineralized waste after landfilling suggested that the temperature significantly affected the distribution of inorganic chlorine in the thermal treatment product. The deposition amount of inorganic chlorine at designated position in the thermal treatment furnace was significantly correlated with the actual temperature. The deposition of inorganic chlorine in the furnace in the pyrolysis atmosphere was more serious than the gasification and incineration atmosphere.
