Automobile structural parts are the main bearing weight parts of automobile body.The progressive die of automobile structural parts has complicated construction and thousands of parts,various kinds of design knowledge and repeated design process.The traditional design method should do the design and assembly of parts by manual,and includes large intensity of labor,leading to difficultly improve the design efficiency.In addition,some common progressive die design systems are already used computer aided design software,to some extent,improving the design efficiency.However,it still shorts in the obtainment,management and application of knowledge in mold design,depending heavily on the designer's design experience.Knowledge based engineering is becoming more and more popular in mould intelligent design.It has unique advantages in knowledge expression,decision making and management.Based on the background,the paper puts forward an intelligent die design system of auto parts progressive die based on Java Drools rule engine.Firstly,the paper analyses the characteristics of automobile structural parts and the design process,specifies the main modules and design tasks of the design system.Secondly,on the realization of knowledge technology at the system bottom,the paper carry on the study of knowledge modeling and expression research of the design system.Lastly,this paper summarizes some intelligent design methods in this system.With classifying the component structure and design principle of typical blanking technology,the template library is created with parameterized configurable template method.Through the feature recognition method,the blanking process geometry is identified for the feature information.The rapid design of blanking components is realized with intelligent reasoning and human interaction.Finally,dynamic assembly technology is used to meet the design requirements of assembly customization.This main design modules run on the platform of NX 8.5 by NX OPEN API,and the knowledge reasoning module integrated with Java Drools rule engine can support the intelligent reasoning and rapid design in some tools of progressive die for automotive structural parts such as die base,punching and trimming structural components,bending and forming structural components.At present,some tools of this system have been put into practice,basically meet the design requirements of the enterprise,improving the design efficiency of the mould.
