A new rigid and bulky quinoline Schiff base ligand was synthesized.A series of complexes were obtained by using solvothermal method and solvent diffusion method.The structures of the complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction,IR,powder X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis.According to their structural characteristics,the magnetic and fluorescent properties of these complexes were studied.The researches of this thesis were summarized as follows:(1)A new quinoline Schiff base ligand HL(HL = 2-{[(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzyl)imino]methyl}quinoline-2-formaldehyde)was synthesized.Four new complexes Zn2L(OAc)3(1),[Cd L2(NO3)][NO3](2),Mn4L2(OAc)6(3)and Ni4L2Cl6(Et OH)2(4)were obtained by employing the different transition metal salts as the metal sources,varying the type and ratio of the solvents and changing the reaction temperatures.The structures of these four complexes were characterized by infrared spectroscopy,elemental analysis,X-ray single crystal diffraction and X-ray powder diffraction.The fluorescent properties of the complexes were studied.(2)Nine lanthanide complexes of compositions [Pr2L2(NO3)4(H2O)]?Et OH(5),[Nd2L2(NO3)4(CH3CN)]?CH3CN(6),[Sm2L2(NO3)4(CH3CN)]?CH3CN(7),[Eu2L2(NO3)4(H2O)](8),[Gd2L2(NO3)4](9),[Tb2L2(NO3)4](10),[Dy2L2(NO3)4](11),[Ho2L2(NO3)4](12)and [Er2L2(NO3)4](13)were obtained under solvothermal conditions.The structures of complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction.They exhibit four different structures.The magnetic properties of these complexes were investigated.Complex 11 shows slow magnetic relaxation behaviour.(3)Five heterometallic complexes of formulas [Zn2L2(OAc)]2 [Sm(NO3)5](14),[Zn2L2(OAc)]2[Eu(NO3)5](15),[Zn2L2(OAc)]2 [Gd(NO3)5](16),[Zn2L2(OAc)]2 [Tb(NO3)5](17)and [Zn2L2(OAc)]2[Dy(NO3)5](18)were synthesized by using solvent diffusion method.The structures of complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction,IR,elemental analysis and powder X-rays.The fluorescent and magnetic properties of these complexes were studied.
