It is well known that graphene has excellent properties,such as conductivity,large specific surface great adsorption performance,etc.Theoretically,a little graphene can make the properties of the composite matrix improved a lot.However,it is hard for graphene to be compatible with other media due to the inert surface of the graphene.And a strong Vander Waals force between graphene layers contributes to aggregation,which leads graphene to be dispersed into water difficultly and restricts many of the prospect applications.To realize the applications,the key is to functionalize graphene oxide in a controlled way to achieve desired properties such as good dispersion and dissolution,and at the same time maintain the intrinsic properties of graphene oxide.In my work,the covalent functionalization of graphene oxide(GO)with acrylic via ester linkages(FAGO)as well as the characterization of modified graphene based acrylate composite prepared by emulsion polymerization was examined.The main work is as follows:(1)Fabrication and Characterization of FAGO.The graphite oxide was prepared by Hummers method and FAGO was obtained by acyl chloride reaction between acrylic and thionyl chloride.It was discovered that a large number of active groups like-O-CO-CH=CH2 existed in FAGO,which made it have excellent dispersion in polar solvent such as DMF,BA.and MMA and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)FAGO has good solubility in polar solvent such as DMF,BA and MMA and polymerize with other monomers further.(2)Fabrication and Characterization of FAGO/acrylate free emulsion.FAGO/acrylate nanocomposite emulsion was prepared by soap-free emulsion polymerization method.The effects of KPS,reactive emulsifiers,FAGO and the monomer ratio on properties(stability of polymerization,monomer conversion,particle size.etc)of FAGO/acrylate nanocomposite emulsion and latex films were discussed in detail.The opticle conditions:w(KPS)%=0.8%,w(ALS:the reactive emulsifier)%=1.0%,w(FAGO)=1.0%and MMA:BA(the monomer ratio)=4.5:5.5.Under these conditions,many good properties studied in the following text were obtained.(3)Since FAGO,a new type of inorganic material,was used in emulsion polymerization system,the effects of FAGO on properties of FAGO/acrylate nanocomposite emulsion were investigated.The test of mechanical properties showed that the tensile strength and the elongation at break of latex films with 1.0%FAGO increased by 10.3MPa and 204%,respectively.At the same time,water resistance of the latex film was studied by water absorbing quality and water contact angle.The research findings indicated that the surface of the nanocomposite was modified from hydrophilic to hydrophobic and the addition of FAGO improved water resistance of composite film tremendously.The solvent resistance of composite film was researched.The oil absorption rate of composite film decreased to 11.7%from 21.2%,which indicated that FAGO could be seen as barrier material like clay and montmorillonite.
