With the development of society,the demand for energy in the production process is increasing.However,the use of fossil fuel will produce and discharge large amounts of carbon dioxide which can cause the greenhouse effect and make the global climate deteriorate.China is one of the countries with the largest greenhouse gas emissions.Reducing carbon emissions has a significant impact on mitigating the global greenhouse effect.Refineries are industries with large carbon emissions and have responsibility for helping country to achieve emission reduction targets.But reducing the carbon dioxide emissions will increase the cost of production.So the main problem needs to be resolved is how to meet the carbon emission reduction targets when the production cost is the lowest.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1)Described the concept of carbon footprint,classification,assessment methods and accounting standards.Several research methods of steam power system of refinery are introduced.(2)The concept of refinery carbon footprint is proposed,and introduce the guidelines for the carbon footprint accounting process.Determine the boundary of the refinery carbon footprint,analyze the carbon footprint source,establish accounting models for different sources of emissions,take a refinery as an example for carbon footprint account,find that the main source of carbon footprint is the combustion carbon footprint,and provide advice for refinery carbon mitigation.(3)Based on different carbon reduction targets,a multi-period optimal operation model of steam power system has been established,to introduce two kinds of carbon reduction methods including fuel substitution and carbon capture,the objective function of the model include environmental cost and carbon reduction cost,carbon emission constraint is considered in the model.(4)The model is solved with the sub-section method which uses line-up competition algorithm coupled with dynamic programming approach,minimizing the cost of operational planning of steam power system while meeting the demand of steam and power under different carbon reduction targets.When the carbon reduction target is low,the measures to reduce carbon emission is the substitution of fuel oil with nature gas.With the increasing of carbon reduce target,the boilers will use carbon capture when all of the boilers are replaced by nature gas without achieving the reduce target,need to consider the higher cost of carbon capture technology to achieve carbon reduction targets.The higher target for carbon reduction,the more boilers need to use carbon capture,due to the cost of carbon capture is higher than the cost of fuel substitution,the increase of total cost is faster.(5)A carbon footprint accounting software is developed based on GUI in MATLAB.The software is mainly the use of material accounting and emission factors to calculate the carbon footprint of different sources.The software can be used to calculate the combustion carbon footprint,process carbon footprint,indirect carbon footprint.
