China has a low per capita share of fresh water and is a country with severe water shortages.However,our country is in a period of vigorous development of socialist construction.There is a huge amount of water in the areas of life and industry.The shortage of water resources is carrying our development.At present,there are phenomena of insufficient water supply in many cities.The state is making efforts to develop the construction of sponge cities to ease the current situation of water shortages in China.Sponge cities are used to solve the problems of reasonable discharge and recycling of urban rainwater,and the contradiction between urban supply and drainage.Under the background of the construction of a sponge city,the design of urban furniture and ancillary facilities will be carried out.In order to enable urban furniture to better serve people's needs,highlight the economic strength of the city,the living standards of residents,and the cultural environment of the streets.At the same time,they have the functions of service,use,and aesthetic appreciation,alleviating the problem of urban energy shortages.Taking the Hohhot City in the arid and semi-arid region as an example,the article focuses on the design of multifunctional urban furniture and ancillary facilities.The literature analysis method and experimental analysis method are used to analyze the local natural conditions and hydrological conditions.Study on the design principles and multifunctional design of urban furniture.The designed products not only possess the inherent attributes and extended functions of urban furniture and facilities,but also satisfy residents' daily activities.It can also accumulate,retain,and purify rainwater during rainfall,reduce surface runoff during urban rainfall,relieve the pressure of urban drainage networks,reduce hidden dangers in urban areas,and provide water for greening landscapes,public toilets,and road cleaning during dry periods.And so on,to some extent ease the current situation of urban water shortages.While saving economic costs,it produces higher economic,social,and ecological benefits.
