The Cultural Logic Of Herdsmen's Environmental Protection Action: A Cultural Study Of Awancang Herdsmen's Environmental Protection Organization

Civil organizations participating in local social governance for a long time,nowadays many environmental protection organizations have emerged along with the environmental crisis.This article takes the participation observation and interviewing method as the main research method,and pays attention to the Village-associated geo-organization established with the focus on monasteries and their environmental protection practice established by the herdsmen of Maqu County in the modernization process of Gannan Tibetan area.The article starts from the aspects of organizational structure,organization system,and organization's collective action,integrates factors such as religious promotion,environmental crisis,and policy intervention,and from the perspective of ecological imagination to explains why the local herdsmen make this choice and persist for a long time.In the collective action,the organization realized its desire to improve the hometown environment and inherited the local ecological knowledge.The education of the organization members and the communal exchanges between the members also unconscious caused the organization to have the responsibility for the integration of social morality and community agglomeration,and therefore it is called "Good Organization".This paper believes that the newly emerging herdsmen environmental protection organization has actually continued the ecological or homeland consciousness in local traditional culture.The organization established because of ecological anxiety,but development of the organization and herdsmen's extensive actions benefit from the local knowledge,such as herders' religious beliefs,cultural logic and ecological ethics.So in the environmental governance,it is necessary to formulate ecological protection policies according to local conditions.The herdsmen environmental protection organization concerned in this article uses local knowledge to take initiative in undertaking social responsibility in the local environmental protection and give full play to the main role of community residents in the environmental protection movement.It is hoped that the research will have some lessons for tapping the ecological concepts in folk culture in other regions and the construction of ecological civilization in ethnic regions.
