The precise gauging of petroleum depends on the precise measurement of ullage and depth of petroleum tank.Traditional dip-tape employ gasoline-finding paste to measure ullage,while the chemical properties of gasoline-finding paste will affect precision.To gauging the depth of petroleum tank,we need dip the dip-weight to the datum point.however,the difficulty of determining whether dip-weight is touching the datum-point and the possible obstacles on the datum-point make measurement hard to be precise.With increasing demand for accuracy,a high-precision measurement is getting more attention.In this paper,a novel portable electronic gauging device is designed to cover the shortage of traditional gauging device.Device exploits camera and ultrasonic sensor to obtain the image of the tank’s inside situation and probe’s position information to help identify liquid level and determine the position of datum-point,therefore improve the measurement accuracy.The design of this device’s mechanical structure and shape,ultrasonic ranging function and image function is based on the demands of application,which mainly involves 3D modeling,ultrasonic front-end circuit’s design,the FIR bandpass filter’s design,the image contour processing and so on.We use SOLIDWORKS to design the 3D model and fabricate the device according to it.Building the ultrasonic front-end circuit with excitation circuit,receiving and receiving circuit and echo signal processing circuit.Apply FDAtool in MATLAB to design the FIR bandpass filter,utilize the OPENCV library to complete the image contour recognition.At last,we test our device and Honeywell’s electronic gauging device’s in experimental setting and compare the measurement results,which show that two devices have almost the same variance on measuring ullage,but our device has remarkable lower variance on gauging tank’s depth.The results prove that our device can achieve the same accuracy of measuring ullage like other portable electronic gauging devices and cover their measuring shortage of inaccuracy and unreliability in gauging the depth of the petroleum tank.
