| Under the background of economic globalization and cultural pluralism,it is vital to carry forward the national tradition and culture as well as highlight the national peculiarity.As a part of the vast and diverse ethnic minorities in China,the Hui nationality,throughout the long history of their establishment,has formed their own unique styles and comprehensive custom of clothing.Not only do these custom and styles reflect the political,economic,religious,and cultural life of the Hui ethnic nationality,but also do they concretely manifest the nationality's historical culture,lifestyle,and common values.It is the final outcome of lengthy assimilation,filtering,screening,and precipitation of and among the Islamic,Arabic,Persian,Chinese Han,and various other minority cultures.By consulting historical literature and investigating the status-quo of the Hui ethnic dress,this paper presents an analysis of the clothing custom's historical and cultural background,the status-quo of the way of dressing,and the reasons behind the formation of the custom.The study then shifted to the perspectives of the contemporary period,and attempted to solve the design bottlenecks during the popularization of Hui ethnic dress,before eventually putting forward the idea that the design of the Hui ethnic dress should be based on its rich design connotation,and concluding with the summary of the fashion design principles for the popularization of the Hui ethnic dress.Firstly,it should be clearly established that the roots of Hui nationality's aesthetic values include the ethnic race as the subject of concern perse,and the beauty of the dress as the object of appreciation.The local environment,religious belief,education level,and aesthetic habits of the other nationalities have all created an impact on the aesthetic standards of the nationality.In order to proceed with the fashion design process for the popularization of the Hui ethnic dress,theappreciation of black and white clothing,together with the aesthetic perception on the clothing's length and density should first be established.Black and white are the most typical dominant colors in the clothing.The“length” aesthetics refers to the tendency in which the clothing usually continues over the hip line and until the somewhere above the ankle line.The“density” aesthetics mainly reflects the relatively thick fabrics of which the clothing is made;if thinner fabrics are used,it will appear in layers.Secondly,throughout the fashion design process of the Hui ethnic dress,the basic functions and the underlying cultural deposits are often easily ignored in the pursuit of beauty.Although fashion in general is changing rapidly,it cannot be separated from the functional roots and the soil of history.The function of Hui ethnic dress is a very good embodiment of the value in use for clothing,which can be interpreted as the conventional understanding wherein excellent dress designs are to be made for the wearers and revolve around the benefits of the wearers.Thirdly,the ethical requirements of the Islamic doctrine on the Hui ethnic dress should be strictly embraced throughout the fashion design and popularization process,while the fabric,pattern,and style of the dress should conform to the requirements of properly concealing the intimate areas,not applying excessive decoration,and not implementing animal-and human-like patterns.Finally,the fashion design of the Hui ethnic dress should be made in close accordance to the most popular and contemporary fashion trends,extracting the fashion elements from the trend and applying it to the practice of the fashion design for Hui ethnic dress,so as to achieve the harmonious symbiosis between the traditional dress and fashion.The research on the popularization of the Hui ethnic fashion has not only injected fresh blood for the promotion of the diversified development of the fashion industry in China,but also introduced a reliable guideline for the future study of the Muslim-influenced Hui ethnic dress culture. |
