FPSO,which is a multi-functional large-scale offshore floating installation playing a role of oil and gas production,storage,offloading and accommodation,exists considerable amount of latent sources of oil and gas release.In addition,because of its compact geometry,high degree of congestion and limited ventilation,it is extremely easy to escalate into a catastrophe of fires or explosions,which would cause fatalities,structural destruction and environmental pollution,if released oil and gas is ignited under such conditions.It is therefore necessary to study fire or explosion risk of FPSO for the purpose of reducing the risk.Relying on the MIIT project “Research and Development of FPSO Failure Database and Risk Assessment System”,this paper has analysed hydrocarbon fire and explosion risk of FPSO based on the theories and methods of risk analysis in order to provide reference for the prevention and control of FPSO fire and explosion risk.In this paper,FPSO oil and gas processing system,the high-risk areas of fire and explosion,is selectd as the analysis object through extensive search and investigation about related theories and progresses.The hazard of major process equipments,the potential sources of oil and gas release in the system,is identified based on FMEA,and hydrocarbon fire and explosion risk of these equipments is qualitatively assessed according to the calculated RPN value.In the light of the results of risk identification,the key equipment with higher risk is selected to conduct qualitative analysis of fire and explosion risk.Firstly,a disaster chain model of oil and gas release to investigate the mechanism of disaster caused by oil and gas release.Secondly,evolution mechanism of fire and explosion accidents caused by released oil and gas is analysed based on ETA.Thirdly,FTA is introduced to the process of ETA to explore the cause of the initial and subsequent events of established event tree model.On the basis of qualitative analysis,the occurrence frequencies of consequences such as fire and explosion induced by released oil and gas from key equipments is calculated based on ETA according to the statistical data of related databases.Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of FPSO fire and explosion risk,Bow-Tie method was used to explore the prevention and control measures of FPSO fire and explosion accident so as to reduce the risk level.
