Public Environmental Protection Knowledge, Environmental Cognition And Environmental Behavior Research

The relationship between public environmental protection knowledge,environmental cognition and environmental behavior is a research issue with important theoretical and practical significance.Based on the perspective of the theory of planned behavior,this paper deduces the following research hypothesis: The more knowledge the public has about environmental protection,the deeper their understanding of the importance of environmental issues will directly promote the public to adopt environmental behavior;The more abundant environmental protection knowledge of the public may affect environmental perceptions that include subjective psychological willingness and perception of environmental pollution,and then influence environmental behaviors;The state of public environmental cognition will also directly affect environmental behavior.The paper’s analysis of China CGSS2013 data shows that: First,there is a correlation among environmental protection knowledge,environmental cognition and environmental behavior.Moreover,environmental protection knowledge and environmental cognition have greater influence on private environmental behavior than on public environmental behavior.Second,there are interactional effects between public environmental behaviors and private environmental behaviors,and some variables in the environmental cognitive dimension have intermediary variables.Third,the control variables such as demographic characteristics have different effects on different dimensions of environmental behavior.This shows that public environmental protection knowledge and environmental cognition have different effects on different dimensions of environmental behavior and need to be examined separately;there are interactional influences among the internal dimensions of environmental behavior and they need to be examined separately.
