Pseudosasa amabilis and Acidosasa gigantean is a kind of bamboo species with high economic value in China.At present,there is a question that due to the increasing environmental awareness,and the increasing contradiction between supply and demand of wood raw materials.Bamboo growth cycle is shortly compared with wood growth cycle.However,the utilization of bamboo resource mostly depends on Phyllostachys pubescen,the supply of raw materials has been further aggravated.The physical and mechanical properties of different kinds of bamboo resources were studied to alleviate this contradiction.It is a key method to find suitable bamboo resources for building materials.The morphological and physical properties of bamboo are the key indicators for its quality.Pseudosasa amabilis and Acidosasa gigantean are widely planted and widely used in Fujian province.Different scholars have done a lot of research on their cultivation techniques,but lack of research on bamboo material properties.It leads to the disconnection between cultivation and material utilization.Therefore,the physical and mechanical properties of Pseudosasa amabilis and Acidosasa gigantean under different ages were studied in this paper.And the measurement indicators include air-dried density,basic density,chordal shrinkage,radial drying shrinkage,volume drying shrinkage,endwise tensile strength,compression strength parallel,bending strength of the string,endwise shearing strength,and elastic modulus.In this study,the physical and mechanical properties of Pseudosasa amabilis and Acidosasa gigantean were studied in three age groups of 2,3,4 years and 1,3,4 years.The results show that(1)the physical and mechanical properties of Pseudosasa amabilis were significantly different in different age groups.The coefficient of shrinkage in radial,chordwise,and volume were smaller as the increases of age.The physical and mechanical properties of Pseudosasa amabilis were best in the third year than in the first and second years.(2)The age has a significant effect on the physical and mechanical properties of Acidosasa gigantean.The coefficient of shrinkage in radial,chordwise,volume were higher as the increases of age.Integrated analysis of indicators imply that the physical and mechanical properties of Pseudosasa amabilis at the 3 ages was best,and the physical and mechanical properties of Acidosasa gigantean were better with the increases of ages.(3)The density of air-dry and compressive strength of Pseudosasa amabilis were better than Acidosasa gigantean under three ages.
