A series of photosensitive multifunctional monomers containing azobenzene moieties have been designed and synthesized,after which azobenzene-functional polymers were obtained by appropriate reaction with the monomers above.We synthesized 4,4’-dihydroxy-azobenzene(DHAB),4-hydroxyhexyloxy azobenzene(H6AAB)and 4,4’-di-(n-hydroxy)-n-alkoxy-azobenzene(BHnAAB)which have hydroxy as azo basic unit.The structure and photoisomerization of the monomers were characterized by infrared spectroscopy(IR),nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1H-NMR),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and UV-visible spectrum(UV-Vis).The next part of the works focus on the thermal performance and the photoresponsive of acrylic azobenzene-functional polymers.First we composed acrylic azobenzene monomers,4,4’-bis-[(acrylic-n-ester-yl)-n-alkoxy]azobenzene(BAnAAB)and 4-acrylic ester-yl hexyloxy azobenzene(A6AAB).Structures and properties of monomers were characterized by IR,1H-NMR,DSC and UV-Vis.Then we synthesized a series of photoresponsive PMMA(p-PMMA)containing different content of BA6AAB by solution polymerization.IR and 1H-NMR were used for structural analysis,DSC and TGA were utilized in thermal analysis,and UV-Vis was used for photo response properties of such polymers.Experiments shows that the p-PMMA samples so obtained can be dissolved in common organic solvents such as THF,thus proving that it possess a linear structure.Experiments on examining its thermal properties shows that the Tg values and the initial decomposition temperature of these polymers increased by the rising of the concentration of azobenzene.SEM showed that the p-PMMA films were transparent,homogeneous,and pinhole-free.The results from UV-Vis experiments shows that isomerization of such polymer solution could be initiated by both light and heating.In the third parts,we obtained the 4-phenylazophenyl glycidyl ether(ABE)by epoxidation,azobenzene amino compounds(ABEA)and water-soluble azobenzene.PEG(PEGA)was obtained by trimethylethylenediamine and methoxypolyethylene glycol amine reacting with ABE.Then fluorescent polystyrene microspheres containing fluorescence azobenzene complexes(ABEZ)which was obtained by ABEA and ZnCl2 was synthesized by in situ dispersion polymerization.Structures,fluorescence properties and photoisomerization phenomenon of all monomers and polymers were characterized by IR,1H-NMR,fluorescence spectrophotometer and SEM.ABEA,ABEZ,PEGA and the azobenzene microspheres were not reported in previous literatures.
