The Effect Of Air Pollution On The Health Of The Elderly

With the rapid development of our country's economy,residents are enjoying the convenient brought by the development.Around the world there are already many researches about the effects of air pollution on resident's health,but because of the complexity of the problem,there are still many problems unsolved,especially the research related with elderly is very lack in our country.Existing studies are limited to one city and not universal.A national study of air pollution on the elderly's health effects for in-depth understanding of air pollution on the health of the elderly,and is important for the making of policy.The main research question of this study is the influence of air pollution on the health of the elderly,including the influence of air pollution on the risk of chronic disease of the elderly and the impact of air pollution on mortality risks of the elderly.This article uses the data of CHARLS in 2013 and chooses the elderly who don't suffering from chronic diseases in 2011.Based on the analysis of related research,the analysis model of this study is chosen as logistic regression model.We choose air pollution index of the country that the sample live as independent variable,and the health status of the elderly as dependent variable,and the relevant control variables are determined as individual index(age,gender,education level,etc.)and climate factors(the average temperature,precipitation).On the basis of general research,this study also grouped the sample and did further analysis to better understand the problem.The main conclusions of this paper has the following aspects: air pollution have significant positive influence on the risk of chronic diseases of the elderly;as the increase concentration of air pollution,the mortality risks of the elderly also increase;different gender and age have a significant impact on the strength of the relationship between air pollution and health of the elderly,but the impact change as the disease change.Base on the conclusion,we make some policy suggestions,and hope these suggestions can contribute to the improvement of the elderly's health.
