Plasma antenna is a new type of antenna in which plasma is one of the main constituents.Owning to its many advantages,plasma antenna has becomethe research focus widely since the concept was proposed.Plasma antennas are mainly categorized into two types: dielectric one and reflective one.In the early days,researchers directly replaced the metallic part of the traditional antenna with plasma,and carried out many researches on the properties of dielectric plasma antenna.In recent years,with the increasing research on reflective array plasma antennas,the research of plasma antennas has gradually evolved into the types of plasma array antennas and intelligent ones.In view of this development,in this dissertation,we focus on the design and test of plasma cylinder and array antennas.First,in this dissertation we have conducted calculation one the plasma parameters related to the antenna design and done the experimental test on the properties of two kinds of plasma cylinder antenna devices,on one end of which surface wavescan be excited,the experimental phenomenaare explained by some relevant theories.Our experiment results verify the device's radiation performance,reciprocity between reception and emission,and it is fair to draw the conclusion that the characteristicsof the radiation frequency band of these devices are due to thecombined effects of plasma cylinders and the discharge tube length.Second,this paper introduces the working principle of the reflective plasma antenna,and points out that the main design purpose of the reflective plasma antenna is to obtain the directionality of the antenna.Two circular plasma array antennas are designed and its experimental phenomenon is explained by plasma refraction theory.A power increment method has been established to estimate the antenna radiation performance of this kind.which was used to obtain the conclusion that the device has good antenna radiation performance.By virtue of this method,we find outthat the designeddeviceindeed has good antenna radiation performance.Finally,upon combining the concept of filter antenna and the numerical simulation results of the frequency characteristics of a periodic plasma array,we propose a new concept of plasma filter antenna,one of such antennas consists of a periodic array of plasma circles,which is inspired by the circularplasma device aforementioned.Via simulation test,the filterability,directionality,and adjustability of this device are in wellagreement with design expectations.
