Beach is a kind of important coastal zone resources which has significant scientific and economic value.It not only has recreational functions,but also protects dikes and protects human's life and property.As a functional approach to manage the beach,quality rating acts as the basement of beach quality analysis and improvement,which also can be used as beach references for visitors.With the rapid development of the Internet,spatial information visualization technology has played an increasingly criticle role in the development of marine management.The establishment of a WebGIS-based management platform can realize fast,efficient,beautiful and open informational expressions of the quality management of beaches.Hainan Island is located at the southern part of China and has abundant beach resources.Since the beach is a criticle part of the development of Hainan International Tourism Island,the beach quality evaluation and information management work needs to be strengthened.This thesis uses four typical beaches of Hainan Island(Haikou Bay,Boao,Sanya Bay,and Qizi Bay)as a case study,conducts research on the general conditions of beaches,sediments of beach surface,geomorphological features,and the status of development and utilization,based on field surveys and observation data during December,2014 to May,2017.Then,assess the beach by rating the quality.As for information management,with the help of powerful WebGIS technology,the study designs a solution of beach quality management cloud platform,based on ArcGIS Online.The specific results are as follows:(1)The basic features of the four typical recreational beaches are as follows: the mean sediment grain size of four beaches varies little,which ranges from 0.31 to 2.63 ?.Sand is the dominant component.In addition,the coarse sand accounts for the largest proportion.Sorting coefficient of different beaches have slight difference,ranging from 0.68 to 0.95,which belongs to the moderate sorting degree.The sorting of the frontshore is slightly better than backshore.The lengths of the four beach shorelines are between 13.5 and 20.5 km,and the longest one is Haikou Bay Beach.The widths of the beach are different.The average width of the Qizi Bay Beach is the largest,and the Sanya Bay Beach is the smallest.As for the slope,four beaches varies little,ranging from 3.9° to 5.4°.The backshore slope is generally smaller than the foreshore,and the difference in frontshores slopes reflects the different coastal wave strength and sediment composition.The overall dynamics of beach topography is featured by seasonal change,and is dominated by accumulation in summer and erosion in winter.Short-term storm events and intensified human activities play important roles in beach evolution.(2)Rating and analysis of Hainan Island typical beaches: The rating features two major aspects,which are natural properties(beach characteristics,inshore water environment,geographical environment conditions,biological Ecological environment)and development properties(humanity background,infrastructure,and service guarantees).From the overall rating results,Haikou Bay Beach,Sanya Bay Beach and Boao Beach belongs to excellent quality level,and the quality level of Qizi Bay Beach is good,while the development quality of Qizi Bay Beach has much possibility of improvement.Extreme weather,such as tropical storms in summer,will raise the risk of severe erosion in Hainan Island's beaches in a short period of time.Human development activities have positive and negative impacts on the quality of beaches.Negative impacts include direct damage to the original landforms and ecological environment of the coast,and disturbances in the dynamic environment of the gulf caused by offshore projects such as artificial islands,and indirect threats to the beach like obstacles to sand transportion along the coast.Positive effects include artificial beach replenishment,windbreak planting,and surrouding facilities construction.(3)A beach quality management cloud platform: Taking the quality rating of four typical beaches of Hainan Island as the theme,a management cloud platform is designed based on ArcGIS Online.This platform provides two major function parts: visualizion and search of results and information of beach quality rating;user perception based online surveys.The platform provides both scientific sevice and public services.This solution features a new way of beach information data storage and services,as cloud platform.It will help improve the informatization level and management efficiency of beach management and make contribution to support the construction of China's “digital ocean” and “digital coast” information infrastructure practice.
