The concept of “Ecology First,Green Development” cannot be fully supported due to using traditional slope engineering protection,a safe and stable method which has disadvantages of long period construction,heavy costs and bad landscape suitability etc,in Loess Hilly-gully areas of fragile ecological environment.The slope protection with vegetation has been gradually used as the one of preferred methods of ecological restoration and comprehensive slope treatment for merits of economy,high efficiency,soil and water conservation,slope-body consolidation,erosion control,scene landscaping,etc.The different affects in slope ecological recovery and slope stability are caused by the various slope-protected species,soil characteristics,depth of root reinforce,and so on in separately slope of different type.So,according to the property of loess slopes,it is significant to raise the protective vegetation species and distribution regularities which adjust to the climate,geological environment and topographic condition in this region.In this article,the slope of Yangjuangou basin of loess hilly-gully areas is selected as the main focus.And the suitability assessment of slope vegetation protection will come to a conclusion by the methods of field vegetation investigation,soil characteristic experiment and numerical simulation.Then the evaluation result is applied to the slope cases,discussing the limiting factors of recovery vegetation on slopes,which is about to promote the awareness of slope vegetation protection in Yangjuangou basin of loess hilly-gully areas.1.The vegetation survey finds that the vegetation is mainly consisted of the native and artificial plants,and the fraction and quantity are notably influenced by the gradient and aspect.2.The soil characteristic experiment manifests that the shear strength of root soil is higher than the plain's,and the shear strength of the caragana root soil is higher than native vegetation's;Yangjuangou basin is in a period of natural growth based on the soil nutrients and heavy metal experiments.3.Utilizing the ANSYS strength reduction FEM numerical software to simulate the root consolidation characteristics of different consolidated-depth shows the shallow state is more positive in the variation of displacement,shearing strength and shearing strain.4.The suitability assessment conclusion of slope vegetation protect is summarized by applying the excavation slope cases in Yangjuangou basin of loess hilly-gully areas,which serve as the practice and research of slope protection with vegetation in loess hilly-gully areas.
