Kaolin is an important non-metallic mineral,named after it was first discovered in Gaoling Village,Jingdezhen,Jiangxi,China.Kaolin is mainly used in the fields of paper making,ceramics and refractory materials.However,the application of kaolin in the earliest and large amount is in the field of ceramics.After the use of kaolin as a raw material for ceramics,the level of ceramic technology and the quality of the products have been greatly improved,thus promoting the development of ceramics.With the transfer of the ceramic industry in coastal areas such as Fujian to Guangdong,it is meaningful to seek high-quality kaolin in Jiangxi and conduct porcelain research on it.The kaolin resource reserves of the Xiaokeng kaolin deposit in Chongyi County of Jiangxi Province are very rich,and the environmental geology of the mine area is good,which has great research value.This paper understands the geological characteristics of the Xiaokeng mining area in Chongyi County,Jiangxi Province,and studies the mineralogical characteristics and ceramics of the kaolinite ore in the Xiaokeng mining area,the kaolin after beneficiation and the modified kaolin.The specific research contents are as follows:(1)The thermal properties of the kaolin in this study were studied and analyzed to determine the change of kaolin in the heating process.It was found that the phase transition temperature of kaolin was around 1000 °C,which laid the foundation for the subsequent porcelain experiment.At the same time,the XRD phase analysis and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)morphology analysis of the white kaolin ore,the variegated kaolin ore,the kaolin after beneficiation and the modified kaolin were compared to compare the mineral composition of the four kaolin minerals.And the difference in structure,found that the main minerals in the ore are granular quartz,thick flake mica,and the kaolinite family minerals are less;the main minerals of kaolin after beneficiation are irregularly shaped flakes and a small number of tubular kaolinite minerals.The content of impurities in feldspar and iron-containing minerals is greatly reduced;the main minerals of modified kaolin are irregularly shaped flakes and a small amount of tubular kaolinite minerals.There is almost no iron-containing impurities in kaolin,and a small amount is added.Rutile,used to enhance the performance of kaolin.(2)The four kinds of kaolin samples studied above were prepared according to the process of baking samples ? grinding samples ? tableting ? drying ? heating and firing ? cooling ? firing into porcelain(calcination at a sintering temperature of 1200 ° C).And test the compressive strength,roughly understand the difference in mechanical properties of the four different kaolin fired tiles,the results show that the calcined porcelain of kaolin ore has a low compressive strength,so it is not appropriate to directly use kaolin ore to burn porcelain.The kaolinite after beneficiation and the calcined porcelain of the modified kaolin have higher compressive strength and can be directly used for porcelain research.(3)The other firing conditions were the same.By changing the holding time,the white kaolin ore,the variegated kaolin ore,the kaolin after beneficiation and the modified kaolin were respectively fired under the conditions of 2h,4h and 6h respectively.The formed ceramic sheets were subjected to XRD phase analysis and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)morphology analysis to study the difference in the performance of the ceramic sheets.Analysis of the influence of the change of holding time on the ceramic tile found that the crystallinity of the ceramic tile will gradually decrease with the increase of the holding time,and the long-term holding time may lead to the melting of the crystal grains,thereby crystallization.Degree drops.The grain size of the mullite in the ceramic sheet becomes larger as the holding time increases.The difference in performance of the same kaolin mineral-fired tiles at different holding times was analyzed to determine the optimum holding time for the kaolin to be fired into porcelain.The results show that the ceramics fired by the modified kaolin need the lowest optimal holding time,which means that after the kaolin is modified,the time required for the heat preservation can be reduced to improve the utilization rate.The grain size of mullite in the porcelain sheet was analyzed.It was found that the mechanical properties of the ceramic tile sintered by kaolin were relatively poor,and the mechanical properties of the modified kaolin-fired ceramics were better than those of the kaolin after ore dressing.The mechanical properties of the tiles.
