Porcelain clay which is layered aquifer silicate clay minerals commonly known as bulk is mainly used for the ceramic industry.Its main mineral composition may be kaolinite,illite or more mineral aggregates.It is widely used in the industrial field especially in the ceramic and rubber,paper industry,has very broad application prospects and market potential for its unique physical and chemical properties.The porcelain clay mineralogical characteristics,rock features,and geochemical characteristics,occurrence characteristics,process performance and application prospects were studied from deep exploration area in 4th section of Zhangcun Coal Mine,Xingtai,Hebei Province.Seven major porcelain clay seams,in shihezi Formation of Permian,had been distinguished.1-5#clay seams is owned to the Upper Shihezi Formation and 6#,7#porcelain clay seams occur in Xiashihezi Formation.Porcelain clay composition were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD),infrared.spectroscopy(IR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results showed that 6#and 7#porcelain clay are mainly composed of illite,a little quartz and feldspar.In the southwestern.r central study area I and in northeast study area ?,some illite changes into pyrophyllite and chlorite for effecting of the magmatic activity.There is a little illite in 1-5#porcelain clay which is composed of illite,pyrophyllite and chlorite.Some illite changes completely into pyrophyllite and chlorite in some area.The IR paltterns of porcelain clay include four types:(1)illite type;(2)illite-chlorite type;(3)pyrophyllite-chlorite type;(4)illite-pyrophyllite-chlorite type.Illite type occurs mostly in 6#and 7#porcelain clay and illite-pyrophyllite-chlorite-porcelain type distributes widely in study area.The SEM pictures show that the illite appears as large flake in 6#and 7#porcelain clay and small debris distributing between pyrophyllite and chlorite in 1-5#porcelain clay.The chemical analysis results show that the content of Fe2O3 decreases gradually with the increase of depth.The content of Fe2O3 is only 3.67 percent in 6#and 7#porcelain clay.Trace elements in porcelain clay are below or close to the abundance value in the earth,the contents of some trace elements including As,Pb,Cu,Th,U,are higher than others.The porcelain clay sample form Xiashihezi Formation can reach the standard I.6#porcelain clay layer is thickness and widely distributed in the study area.Influenced by structure,strata is volatile in zhangcun.The analysis results of processing property show that the index of 6#and 7#porcelain clay treated can meet the industrial standards of papermaking,ceramics and rubber industry.The utilizations of porcelain clay are evaluated by combining with the utilization status and market situation of non-metallic mineral.The results can provide a reasonable basis for exploration of local porcelain clay resources.
