| Tectonic activities are internal processes of the planets,nd reflect their internal thermal evolution history.unar wrinkle ridges are common tectonic landforms widely distributed in the lunar maria.Lunar ridges are generally considered to be rather old previously,ormed after the deposits of the mare basalts.However,any young wrinkle ridges were found inside Mare Imbrium using Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera(LROC)arrow Angle Camera NAC)igh-resolution images.They represent very recent tectonic activity on the lunar surface.Determining their formation times,morphology and formation mechanism is critical to understanding the Moon’s late evolution.Based on multi-source remote sensing data,his paper carried out an in-depth research into these young wrinkle ridges.The main contents and results are as follows:1.The distribution and morphology of the young wrinkle ridges inside Mare Imbrium were determined.We mapped these young ridges on the high-resolution seamless mosaic,and found that they have a winding and arched morphology.2.The formation times of the young wrinkle ridges were estimated.We estimated the ages of small craters crosscut by the young ridges based on the linear and exponential decay models of the spatial boulder density method,and further estimated the formation times of the young ridges.We believed that these young wrinkle ridges formed within 10 or a few 10s Ma,and may still be active today.3.The possible formation mechanism of the young ridges was discussed.The young ridges are generally less than 300 m wide,and have a very low relief.They are distributed at the periphery of the large wrinkle ridges,and pass through the bottom of many craters,to generate such folds by thrust,the thrust was supposed to be a horizontal thrust that flattens into a decollement.he depths to decollement derived based on the area-conservation principle indicate that the thrusts are very shallow,supporting the thin-skinned deformation.ue to the concentrated distribution of the young ridges in the inner region of Imbrium basin,e believed that except the global compressional stress due to the cooling of the Moon’s interior,he regional horizontal compression caused by the prolonged cooling of the Procellarum KREEP Terrane(PKT)should also be considered as a possible source. |
