As a highly complex and sophisticated multi-level nonlinear system, the brain processes the neural information involving multiple layers and multiple regions, and not only rely on the neural activity of a few neurons.IHowever, the information processing mechanism of the structural nervous system composed of a large number of neurons and the underlying cognitive function realization mechanism of the functional nervous system are still unknown. In this paper,we focus on these two problems to discuss the synchronous neural activity of a structural neural network from the perspective of energy, and to realize the cognitive function of a specific functional neural network(olfactory neural network)through modeling. In this paper,we first present a simple fully-connected structural neural network which is based on the Hodgkin-Huxley model. It is constructed to simulate the synchronous neural activity of the local cortical network.Using energy coding theory,an energy index of negative energy ratio is proposed to measure the synchronization of network oscillation. Then we explore the relationship among neural activity synchronization and network parameters(including network size, coupling strength and signal transmitting delay)and consumed neural energy in detail. Then,a functional olfactory network model including olfactory bulb and olfactory cortex is constructed to simulate the neural activity pattern under the external stimuli, which is based on the electrophysiological properties of neurons in the olfactory system and the anatomical connections of various elements.Iin addition,a kernel function based on neuronal spike sequence is proposed to deduce two kernel clustering algorithnms(including hierarchical clustering and fuzzy clustering)which are used to cluster the neural activity patterns of the network,so as to realize the recognition of pure odor stimulus and the identification of odor components in mixed odor stimulus. The research work in this paper will help to understand information processing mechanism and the neural energy coding law in the nervous system, and also lay the foundation for the the study of the underlying cognitive function mechanism of the olfactory system.
