Based on the plane-wave angular-spectrum analysis method and the nonlinear polarization theory of optical activity, the propagation behavior of light waves in optically active crystals has been investigated. In addition, the influence of optical activity on the momentum and the angular momentum of light has been quantitatively analyzed by using the Abraham and Minkowski momentum versions. In this thesis,we consider the situation that a left-handed Gaussian light beam is incident into an isotropic Bi12SiO20 crystal with optical activity. The main conclusions of present thesis are as follows.(1)Beginning from Maxwell's equations,we have analyzed the propagation behavior of light beam in an optically active crystal. In the paraxial regime, the analytic expressions of electric vector of light in the crystal are obtained, indicating that the right-handed component of light with optical angular momentum appears when the incident left-handed Gaussian light beam is propagating in the optically active crystal.(2)The optical momentum in the optically active crystal is investigated by utilizing the Abraham and Minkowski momenta.According to the nonlinear polarization theory, the second-order nonlinear polarization associated with the optical activity serves as a perturbation to the total polarization in Bi12SiO20 crystals. It turned out that the existence of optical activity of the crystal breaks the relationship PM=n02PA between Minkowski momentum PM and Abraham momentum PA.(3)The optical angular momentum in the optically active crystal is studied by employing the Minkowski angular momentum formulation and the corresponding balance equation for the angular momentum. We have found that angular momentum coupling occurs between light field and the crystal due to the existence of optical activity. The light field will transfer part of its angular momentum,Jc(z)=-?V<gz>dV,to the crystal. In other words, the angular momentum of the light field in the crystal is not conserved.
