Transcranial Magneto-acoustic Stimulation(TMAS)is a new nerve stimulation technology, which can produce biophysical effects on nerve cell resulting in the changes in neuronal electrical and biochemical signals via focused ultrasound and static magnetic field. It greatly compensates for the defects of the existing non-invasive electrical nerve stimulation technique in spatial resolution and penetration depth, which is an amazing brain stimulation technique with far-reaching application prospect. However, the current research on this technique is merely focused on the theoretical testing and model or simulation. It is very significant to use this technique on animal in vivo.In this paper, the ultrasonic signal transmitter module and the specific mouse stereotaxic apparatus have been designed and manufactured. The performance of the system and each part of it have been all measured.Different target region of mice brain have been stimulated using our TMAS system.Firstly, the motor cortex area was stimulated by TMAS.Meanwhile, the motion feedback has been observed and the electromyography(EMG)signals have been recorded and denoised by wavelet analysis. The results show that the TMAS method can effectively stimulate the motor cortex and induce the muscle movement.it proves that TMAS can be used in small animal stimulation in vivo.Furthermore, due to the TMAS process inevitably contain the ultrasound stimulation. The EMG induced by TMAS and transcranial ultrasound stimulation(TUS)have been compared to investigate the effect of the TUS on TMAS process. Then,in order to find the effect of TMAS worked in hippocampus of mice, healthy mouse and Parkinson's disease model mouse have been stimulated respectively. The behavior and the electrophysiology results have been analyzed and evaluated the ability of TMAS.In the experiments,a TUS-group has been also added and compared. The results showed that both the TMAS and TUS have improved the synaptic plasticity of the hippocampus and the motor function of the mice.In addition, the TMAS-group mice showed the better performance than that of TUS-group.According to the in vivo resultsthe ability and safety of TMAS method have been evaluate and the potential mechanism of TMAS has been discussed. We find that the that TUS process have contributed to the performance of TMAS and propose that TMAS is a complex stimulation combined by the electric field of magneto-acoustic effect and the mechanical force of TUS.
