With the increasing development of economy,more and more rural domestic solid waste has been produced in rural areas in China.Putrescible waste accounts for majority of rural domestic solid waste.Existing perishable waste treatment technologies are not suitable to recycle rural putrescible waste to generate high value utilization.This work aims to study the disposal of rural putrescible waste by black soldier fly(BSF).The growth characteristics of larvae and the influence of process parameters in the treatment of rural putrescible waste were explored.A high efficiency reactor was designed to test two process models for the treatment of rural putrescible waste by black soldier fly.The main results were concluded as follow:1.The rural putrescible waste were composted before being fed to black soldier fly larvae.The rural putrescible waste composted for 0-1 day and 3-5 days were suitable for feeding larvae.But the rural putrescible waste composted for 9-10 days was not suitable.2.Black soldier fly larvae could grow by feeding rural putrescible waste at 25-43 ?.And with the temperature rising,the average growth rate initially increased and then decreased.The suitable temperature range for larvae growth was 30-38 ?(average growth rate more than 25 mg·d-1).The average growth rate reached highest(29.6 mg ·d-1)at 38 ?.The maximum temperature for larvae growth was 43 ?.3.The weight in wet base and the organic matter of rural putrescible waste gradually decreased in the treatment of black soldier fly.The decrement of crude protein and crude fat in first 24 h accounted for more than 90%of total decrement.4.The black soldier fly larvae powder was a kind of feedstuff with high crude protein(45.21%),high crude fat(33.45%)and high lysine(2.987%).5.With increment of average feeding amount,the black soldier fly larvae grew up better but the reduction of rural putrescible waste decreased.Considering the larvae productivity and the waste reduction,the suitable average feeding amount was 151 mg·larva-1·d-1 for the treatment of rural putrescible waste.6.Experiment showed that the larvae density had little effect within certain larvae density range(4.3?14.7 larvae·cm-2)at average feeding amount of 130 mg·larva-1 ·d-1.7.The self-design reactor could run stably to treat rural putrescible waste by black soldier fly in single high-density batch process.After 10 days of operation with larvae density of 25.6 larvae·cm-2 and average feeding amount of 135.2 mg·larva-1·d-1,the weight of rural putrescible waste decreased 38.9%in wet base and 25.5%in dry base.Meanwhile the larvae productivity was 81 g·kg-1.8.The self-design reactor could run stably to treat rural putrescible waste by black soldier fly in multi-batch process.The reactor operated for 32 days,the wet weight of rural putrescible waste decreased by 56.6%and dry weight decreased by 28.6%.The larvae productivity was 81 g·kg-1 and 71%prepupa were crawled out.
