Pachliopta aristolochiae(Fabricius)is such a kind of insect with high ornamental value, and also an important resource for tourism. At the same time,it has a harmful effect onAristolochia debilis Sieb.et Zuc.So far, there have been a few reports about occurrence regularity,,host plants, artificial prevention and artificial fodder for its larvae. However, study and reports on its the biological characteristics are in lack.In order to explore the biological characteristics of Pachliopta aristolochiae(Fabricius),the author gathered mature larvae from the wild. And these larvae were reared indoors and outdoors, and given systematic observation and stud, which offered basic knowledge for its artificial rearing. The results are showed as follows.1?It was showed in the study that Pachliopta aristolochiae(Fabricius)happened four to five generations in Changsha. It lived through the winter by shape of pupa.Until to the first ten days of April,it began its eclosion, and the ecolsion had its prosperous period in the last ten-day period of April and first ten-day period of May.The larva had five ages.2?Based on the observation and rearing in the laboratory and in the wild, the study on behaviors of oviposition, feeding, flying, eclosion and copulation of adults and feeding, ecdysis, and pupating behaviors and life habits of larvae were specifically carried out.3?It was found there were some differences between different ages of larvae. As the larvae grew older, the width of head, length of body and the weight and food consumptionof larvae also increased. There were not very obvious differences between the first and second larvae, however, from the third period, the weight and food consumption obviously increased. And especially from the fourth larvae, these two kinds of data increased rapidly. When the larvae came to the fifth period, the food consumption amount and weight got to the peak..4?Temperature had a great influence on developmental duration of all periods of Pachliopta aristolochiae(Fabricius). As temperature became higher, the developmental duration of egg, larvae and pupa became shorter. The duration of all periods, and the hatching rate of eggs, the survival rate of larvae were explored under three different temperatures. It was found that 25±1 ? was the most adaptive temperature of growth and development of Pachliopta aristolochiae(Fabricius).Under this temperature,Pachliopta aristolochiae(Fabricius)needed 49.3 days to finish one generation.Among these 49.3 days, the egg stage accounted for 5.8 days, larva stage for 20.0 days, pupa stage for 13.5 days and adult for 10 days. The hatching rate of egg was 98.6 %,and survival rate of larvae was 96.7%.Both of the rate were higher under this temperature compared to other two temperatures.According to the statistics of developmental duration, the developmental threshold temperature and effective accumulated temperature were figured out.The developmental threshold temperature of eggs and effective accumulated temperature were 5.9±1.8 ? and 113.4±36.1 day degrees;larvae 9.8±2.0? and 295.7±37.0 day degrees, pupa 5.7±1.6 ? and 254.9±20.6 day degrees. The total effective accumulated temperature was 669.4 day degrees, which was mostly occupied by larvae period.
