In the case of microbial contamination in water, the current treatment method is difficult to meet the high processing efficiency and the basic requirements of no by-products.Pulsed arc discharge is a new environmentally friendly sewage treatment technology,it can effectively kill the water micro-organisms,and it has a great application prospects. However, now the influencing factors of pulsed arc discharge and its pressure wave characteristics that have an important effect on sterilization are still not fully studied,so this paper has carried on the related research. In this paper, the experimental power supply of pulsed arc discharge in water was built.A large-capacity pulsed arc discharge sewage treatment reactor was designed to study the characteristics of pressure waves and the electrode device were designed. The effects of storage capacitor voltage, liquid conductivity, electrode gap distance and electrode material on the discharge characteristics were studied using the set of experimental devices. The results show that the storage capacitor voltage does not affect the energy consumption of the pre-breakdown stage when the conductivity is low,but when the conductivity is high, the pre-breakdown energy decreases rapidly with the increase of the capacitor voltage.Resulting in different conductivity characteristics, the other discharge characteristics are different and energy injection efficiency is less affected by conductivity. If the storage capacitor voltage increases regardless of the conductivity level, the maximum discharge current, the maximum instantaneous power, and the plasma channel stage energy consumption are increased, and the energy injection efficiency is gradually reduced. With the increase of the gap distance, the capacitance energy is more allocated to the pre-breakdown stage, resulting in The maximum discharge current, the maximum instantaneous power, and the plasma channel stage energy consumption are reduced, but the energy injection efficiency gradually increased.Different electrode materials can cause pre-breakdown energy differences, but the difference does not have any significant effect on The maximum discharge current, the maximum instantaneous power, and the plasma channel stage energy consumption and energy injection efficiency. The characteristics of the typical pressure waveforms on the walls of the semi-closed vessel are analyzed qualitatively. The influence of electrode form, storage capacitor voltage and electrode spacing on pressure wave distribution and maximum value was studied. The results show that pressure wave generated by the flat rod electrode is not symmetrically distributed in space, and under the same discharge condition, the maximum value of the pressure wave generated by the flat rod electrode at the same position is also very different. The maximum pressure of the cone-rod electrode, the cone-flat head electrode, and the hemispherical head electrode are almost the same at the two points of symmetry, and the maximum pressure produced by each discharge is also stable.Increasing the storage capacitor voltage has a more obvious effect on the increase of the maximum pressure. As the electrode spacing increases, the maximum pressure increases first and then decreases.
