The project of this master's thesis aims at building a 698 nm sub-hertz line-width laser for the Strontium 1So to 3PO clock transition. In the process of developing all the sub-systems,we gain insightful knowledge concerning narrow linewidth laser techniques, which are instrumental to the future applications for precision measurement experiment in our lab.During the Master thesis study,I designed and built two versions of the external-cavity diode laser at 698 nm,two versions of the ultra-stable cavity system for sub-hertz laser locking and comparison, and a high speed loop filter for laser line-width-reduction locking.I also built the stable laser platform with vibration isolation, and aligned optics for a PDH laser locking. After carrying out a careful study of the frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio in laser locking loops in theory and experiment,I finally achieve the expected tight laser locking. This thesis is arranged as follows,I will first give a detailed discussion of all the important aspects of the sub-Hertz laser locking. Then I will show my design of the relevant parts in response to the tight requirements and also the important thinkings behind these designs.
