Map is an effective tool for people to understand the geographical environment.As a common form of map,paper map has the characteristics of macroscopical display,convenience for carrying and plotting.In some specific environments,paper map has obvious advantages.For example,in battlefield environment,paper map using special materials is more applicable than electronic map.And paper map is not susceptible to electromagnetic interference and other factors.However,the information age has brought great challenges to traditional paper map.Shortcomings of paper map are increasingly prominent,such as the lack of interactive functions,solidified form,long update cycle and limited information volume.It urgently needs to find a method or a technical mean to upgrade the traditional paper map,which can enrich the contents of paper map and expand the application of paper map.Augmented reality is an additional information overlay technology based on the real environment,which can effectively solve the defects and shortages of paper map.Based on the project and mapping tasks,the paper combines augmented reality technology with traditional paper map.This paper studies the design and the implementation of the augmented reality expression on paper map,which realizes the effective integration of paper map and augmented reality.The research work of this article mainly includes:1.This paper analyzes the shortcomings and defects of traditional paper map.And the paper has summarized the advantages and significance of the combination of augmented reality technology and paper map.Based on this,the paper analyzes the development process and research status of augmented reality and augmented map.Afterwards,the paper points out the objectives and key points of this study.In the end,the research ideas for the paper are determined.2.This paper analyzes the general model of map information transmission.Combined with the concept and characteristics of augmented map information,this paper constructs an information transmission model for augmented map,which provide a therotical basis for expression design.3.The paper analyzes the interactive expression features of augmented map symbols and the elements of information annotation.The paper conducts the research by the methods of questionnaire surveys,visual sensation experiments and statistical analysis.For the distinction of symbols,the paper proposes a design method that takes into account the human-computer interaction function.For the layout of information annotations,the paper proposes a user-oriented design approach.These methods improve the user's cognitive efficiency and reduce the difficulty of operation,which provide a reference for the design of the augmented map expression in the future4.The paper builds a human-machine relationship model that takes into account the human characteristics of augmented map.After that,the paper proposes a method to the design of the interface's guidance function.This method reduces the difficulty of operation and effectively improves the information transmission efficiency of augmented map.5.This paper optimizes the registration method of augmented reality on paper map.After this,the paper implements an augmented reality prototype system on paper map.By using the questionnaire survey,the paper verifies the availability of the system from the six dimensions,which include functional guidance,low cognitive load,low learning difficulty,user satisfaction,and interaction adaptability.
